Santiago Calatrava, world-famous architect, was born in Valencia (Spain) in 1951 where he graduated in architecture. This first training was followed in 1979 by the qualification of industrial engineer obtained in Zurich (Switzerland) as well as the Phd in Technical Sciences in 1981. Calatrava’s career is punctuated by the realization of multiple engineering and architectural projects all over the world, as well as assignments and awards of the highest level. In his works the Spanish designer also expresses his deep interest in the visual arts: in fact both painting and sculpture are expressive forms that he uses together with technical precision. His peculiar architectural forms, rich in pillars, beams, buttresses, such special roofs derive from this blend. He has also created various objects of furniture among which, for example, various vases.
